I’ve been absolutely dying to try out a subscription beauty box service forever now, and this month I finally settled on giving Birchbox a go. This is my first ever experience with a subscription box and I was so excited to open this one up and see what beauty surprises were waiting inside. I actually signed up purely because as a student, I was scanning through my unidays app and noticed they were doing 50% off for students on their first box and there was a Benefit lip treat inside every March box too! This month’s theme is Signed, Sealed & Delivered and it’s the original packaging taking birchbox subscribers on a trip down memory lane, back to when it all started.
Benefit Double the Lip – Lusty Rose
When I signed up, I was given the option to choose a Benefit lip treat in either Lusty Rose or Pink Thrills. I chose Lusty Rose because it’s a nice nude pink colour, so perfect for everyday wear. Pink Thrills is more of a brighter pink colour, so for me personally, it would still be something I would wear but more for a night out. I love the fact it’s a lipstick and liner packed into one product and the tear drop shape is so unique yet so practical at the same time. The idea is that the outer part of the tear drop part is actually the lip liner and the lighter, wider part is the actual lipstick. When applying this product to your lips, you would have the pointy part of the tear drop facing upwards and apply it against your lip line and then you would flip it upside down to do your lower lip. You would then end up with the darker ‘liner’ shade on the line of your lips and the lighter shade filling in the inner part. I’ve always adored benefit cosmetics products and I was so happy to have the opportunity to try their lipstick out! It’s by no means the actual full size lipstick but it is in all honesty, a really generous sample size version.
Balance Me Instant Lift Primer
The natural skin care instant lift Primer by Balance Me boasts that it blurs pores and refines the surface of the skin to give you that flawless complexion. I’ve actually recently run out of my primer so this has arrived just in time and it’s always good to try something new. I also can’t quite place what the smell is but I actually love this products sweet scent, it’s beautiful. I’ve only tried this the once so far but I did really feel I could see/feel the difference and dare I say it.. I may actually repurchase this one instead of my regular primer.
Model Co Highlighting Trio
This is the Model Co Highlighting Trio and when I saw that this was one of the items that could be recieved in this month’s Birchbox, I did a little wishing in the hope that I would receive it in my box. Lucky for me, my prayers were answered and this little beaut was sitting there in my box waiting for me to try and test it. This is actually the full size product as well so it’s not a sample size which I think is what made it all that more appealing to me. The trio includes three shimmery highlighters, a pearly shade, rose pink and a bronze, champagne colour. I love the look of all of these and I can’t wait to try them out and see what I think of them! Anyone who knows me, knows that I love highlighters and everyone could do with a touch of shimmer!
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
The Oribe Texturizing spray ticks every single box of what I would want in a hair product but the full size version of this comes with a hefty price tag. It’s a multi purpose product that’s partly a dry shampoo, partly a texturizing spray and boasts to be a quick fix to give you fabulous hair on those hectic ‘I am running super late’ mornings. I’m so excited to try this out and it’s probably something I would consider buying to use for special occasions but as I already use like a can of batiste a week, I would say at £40.00 for the full price, it’s just not a cost effective option for me. I am happy this was one of the items in my box though, it’s nice to try a luxury hair product for a change and who knows.. I might really fall in love with it.
Marcelle Gentle Makeup Remover for Sensitive Eyes – Birchbox Exclusive
The Marcelle Gentle Makeup Remover is a birchbox exclusive item and this was another product that I hoped would be in my box. I’m always looking for makeup removers that are kind to sensitive eyes and the skin, this one claims it is so let’s hope so! It has a faint smell that I can’t place, but it does smell pleasantly sweet so that’s nice. It’s quite an oily product so I would say it’s one to avoid if you have the individual false eye lash extensions. I have tried this out and I have to say it is really quick and effective at removing my mascara and eye makeup (my mascara can be a bit of a pain to remove). It didn’t irritate my eyes at all and actually felt really cooling and refreshing on my eyes. I definitely prefer this one over my regular one on first impressions so I’ll continue to use the sample till it runs out and if I still love it, this one’s definitely going on the repurchase list.
Overall, I’m really impressed with the selection and nice variety of products I received in my first ever birchbox. There’s nothing in there that I want to toss and there’s even a little 20% off voucher for when I spend in the birchbox shop. I was admittedly a bit disappointed about the theme this month, because I’ve seen some gorgeous birchbox designs over recent months. I do however appreciate the March ‘throw-back’ theme to the original birchbox though and I do think it’s a nice touch in its own little way. I’m really happy I signed up and I feel I’ve been given some fabulous products to try this month! I’ll definitely be keeping my subscription running and I already can’t wait for April’s box!
